I was going to buy some facial cleanser by MyChelle (as per a friend's blog that I spied), but I found myself eyeing this Alba Organics Hawaiian Pineapple Enzyme Facial Cleanser in King Soopers late last night while buying groceries. Here's a picture:
I decided (belatedly) to look at the reviews of the product. I've only used it once, so I can't really say how I feel about it yet. Thankfully, I was greeted by a slew of positive reviews online. There was an average of 4.5 stars out of 5 with 11 reviews on one site. This review (from www.vitacost.com) is mostly positive but has a hilarious negative slant as well:
"This is a wonderful cleanser. With proper moisturizing, it exfoliates without leaving my face tight or itchy. If I go a week without, I notice the difference, but that fresh glow returns after a few days cleansing with this product. The only catch, BE VERY CAREFUL TO KEEP IT AWAY FROM THE EYES! The least little bit stings terribly which is why I knocked off a star in the quality rating. However, the results on my tired and troubled skin are so good that I'll stick with the product."
Hehe. Well that makes sense. I imagine having bromelain (the enzyme) in your eyes is no fun. I don't know much about bromelain's properties when applied to the skin, but I know (from working at Wild Oats in the vitamin section) that bromelain is a digestive enzyme.
So we SHALL SEE my dear readers. We shall see.

p.s. in related news, I'm having a facial on September 6th with my friend, Bev, who will come from out-of-town. I don't generally indulge in such things (can't afford to, etc), but we have been pondering having some indulgent get-together for a while and she is getting a pedicure while I get a facial. We were originally going to BOTH get pedicures, but it was too difficult to find a place that would schedule two pedicures at a time, so I opted to have the facial. I probably can't afford it now, but I don't know when (or if) I'm going to have more money so I may as well just do it now. It's as good a time as any. I just can't go out to eat or anything for a month or so...hehee.
